Why are they deactivated and why am I listing them here?
Why are they deactivated:
I just haven't got round to Activating and setting them up
or
I'm not ready to use them yet
or
Other activated plugins have the function already
Why I am listing them here:
I want to remember what they are and why I am not using them before I delete them.
Deactivated plugins are no use to anyone but the hackers.
I will delete them and re-install when I need them and will use them.
Akismet Anti-Spam
Used by millions, Akismet is quite possibly the best way in the world to protect your blog from spam. It keeps your site protected even while you sleep. To get started: activate the Akismet plugin and then go to your Akismet Settings page to set up your API key.
I haven't got round to getting the api key. I am using other solutions in the meantime.
Google Analyticator
Adds the necessary JavaScript code to enable Google's Analytics. After enabling this plugin you need to authenticate with Google, then select your domain and you're set.
Why unused?
I never got round to setting it up, and it's easy enough to authorise Google's Analytics with a file. I don't want more javascript code than is absolutely necessary on my site. Every extra slows it down.
Limit Login Attempts
Limit rate of login attempts, including by way of cookies, for each IP.
Why unused?
Another security plugin does this and more.
UpdraftPlus - Backup/Restore
Backup and restore: take backups locally, or backup to Amazon S3, Dropbox, Google Drive, Rackspace, (S)FTP, WebDAV & email, on automatic schedules.
Perhaps it's only familiarity, but I like knowing what I am doing and being quick about it.
Viper's Video Quicktags
Easily embed videos from various video websites such as YouTube, DailyMotion, and Vimeo into your posts.
Oh dear, it's all too sad. Viper007Bond died in February 2019 after a long fight with Leukemia. His plugin is no longer available at wordpress.org.
WPtouch Mobile Plugin
Make a beautiful mobile-friendly version of your website with just a few clicks.
My Theme works well for mobile. I got it to play with and see what it does as it might be useful for other sites.
